Case Study

Offshore Wetland Islands

LWC provided Engineering Services to construct Offshore Wetland Habitat along 3 acres of an existing public recreational lake. Services included Geomorphic Evaluations, Wetland Design Plans, Details, Specifications, Permitting, Bidding, Cost Estimates, Construction Observation, Monitoring and Maintenance Observation. Hemi-marsh is a valuable habitat in the region. It occurs due to glacial, topographic, soil, and vegetative factors. Hemi-marsh is also especially desirable for wildlife diversity. A Grant was awarded for project implementation. Project Benefits include a unique demonstration of offshore wetland construction, wetland expansion, shoreline habitat diversity, erosion control, water quality improvement, and educational opportunities. Shorebirds, terns, cormorants, and Bald Eagle have been observed at the Project Site. Sandhill Crane have used the site for breeding. Living Waters Consultants observed construction by Earthwerks.
