Case Study

Ravine Stabilization and Restoration

Living Waters Consultants provides Ravine Stabilization and Restoration Services. To the extent practicable, we strive to use environmentally sound methods, and often utilizing native plantings. Final Engineering Services typically include Site Survey, Final Engineering Design Plans, Fluvial Geomorphic Evaluations, Geomorphic Evaluations, Wetland Assessment, Natural Stream Channel Methods, Permitting, Cost Estimates, Bidding, Construction Observation, and Post-Construction Monitoring. Ravine systems in Illinois are often described as unique ecosystems. They can contain rare and desirable plant species, animal, and they are also critically valuable as recreational areas. In other cases, ravines can be surrounded by manicured turf - which can pose particular challenges with site stabilization due shallow root structures. Problems that often occur in ravines include loss of land, channel migration, mass wasting, soil sliding, and other modes of failure. Project benefits include site stabilization, plant species diversity, recreational benefits, open space preservation, water quality filtration, and reductions in flood impacts.
